Top Three Emergency Management Sessions You Don't Want to Miss at the 2017 Intermedix Summit

With less than 90 days left until this year’s Intermedix Summit, I hope you’ve been able to register for the Summit and start planning your schedule for each day.

The theme for this year’s Summit is One Rhythm, One Community. Besides the obvious nod to Nashville as the Music City, this theme conveys the idea of a large community sharing ideas and supporting each other. As these ideas are central to the Intermedix Summit, where clients come together to present and share ideas, this theme seemed very fitting for this year’s event.

In support of this theme, our emergency management community has some really great share-a-thon sessions planned that are focused on sharing valuable information, best practices and lessons-learned from real life events. Every one of these sessions are well worth your time, but I’ve gone through the impossible task and picked my top three must-see emergency management track sessions that you may want to strongly consider attending.

Share-a-thon: How Crisis Built Our System: Charlotte's Story of Civil Unrest and WebEOC

  • When: May 9 at 10 a.m.
  • Who: Elaney Katsafanas, Emergency Management Planner at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management
  • Why: From one of the newest WebEOC implementations comes great insight gained from events that took place late 2016 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Elaney will take you through those days of civil unrest and crisis, and how they were able to quickly adapt their system to meet the demands suddenly brought upon them.

Share-a-thon: Lessons Learned and Best Practices at FEMA

  • When: May 10 at 9 a.m.
  • Who: Wayne Truax, Chief of Operations Capabilities Office at FEMA
  • Why: Wayne isn’t just on the Chief of Operations Capabilities at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) – he’s also the WebEOC program manager at the center of the WebEOC implementation and roll out at FEMA. At the 2017 Intermedix Summit, Wayne will share his experiences, relay best practices that he has gained over the last four years and offer insight into FEMA’s future initiatives and goals through the use of WebEOC.

Share-a-thon: Using WebEOC to Become EMAP Compliant

  • When: May 11 at 8 a.m.
  • Who: Don Campbell, EM Director at Guilford County Emergency Management
  • Why: Tackling the Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP) is no easy task, and you often need all the help you can get – which is kind of what EMAP is about it, isn’t it? Don’s session will cover how WebEOC was central to their process for not only getting accredited, but also for becoming the first county in the state of North Carolina to do so. Share-a-thons are all about sharing information, tools and lessons-learned, and that is exactly what this session will provide you.
